Grand final hero Cam Howieson commits to future at Auckland FC

Auckland FC grand final hero Cam Howieson has signed a two-year contract extension, committing his future to the club he helped deliver its first title.
The 31-year-old attacking midfielder scored the only goal in last month's 1-0 grand final victory over Sydney FC at a sold-out Go Media Stadium — his first goal for the club in 48 appearances across two seasons.
Howieson was unanimously named the Joe Marston Medal winner as player of the grand final.
One of Auckland FC's inaugural signings in 2024, Howieson had spent several years in the football wilderness before joining the club. He has made Auckland his home for nearly a decade.
"Auckland is my home," he said.
"This club is special, the fans are incredible, there is nowhere else I'd rather be.
"Scoring in front of the 'Port' was a dream come true, a moment I will never forget. I am hungry to add more silverware for the fans."
Football director Terry McFlynn said the club was delighted to keep him.
"Cam is a proud Aucklander, and you saw in the grand final exactly what he means to Auckland and this squad. We are delighted he is staying at Auckland FC."
