Child, 12, assaulted by stranger at BMX park - police hunt for ute

Police are on the hunt for a person suspected of assaulting a 12-year-old at a Havelock North park.
The assault happened on Friday at Guthrie Park, Detective Inspector James Keene said.
"Around 3.10pm, a 12-year-old child was approached by a stranger at the BMX park."
It was believed the suspect may have been driving a grey Nissan Navara ute with roof racks, but no canopy. The number plate was unknown, according to police.

Information was wanted from anyone with knowledge of the vehicle or anyone who may have witnessed anything in the park on Friday.
"If you were in the car park between 2pm to 3.30pm, please contact us.
"Additionally, we are also looking for any dashcam footage or cell phone footage, that was captured in the area between 2pm to 3.30pm that shows a vehicle of a similar description," said Detective Inspector Keene.
Members of the community were urged to be "alert, not alarmed" and to take care out in public, especially when alone, police said.
"Police will be conducting reassurance patrols in the area today and in the coming days."
Anyone with information could contact police via 105, referencing file 260605/8399.
"Please call police on 111 if you feel unsafe or notice anything suspicious," Keene said.
