In photos: Evacuations as Kaikōura declares state of emergency

A State of Emergency has been declared in the Kaikōura District this morning as flooding caused by prolonged heavy rain moving north up the country prompts evacuations.

Parts of Marlborough and Canterbury remain under a rare red-level heavy rain warning, with up to 220mm on top of what has already fallen expected between 9am Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday.
Police and Fire and Emergency NZ are assisting with evacuations in the North Canterbury town.
