Smell of gas closes section of SH1 through Levin

State Highway 1 is closed in both directions through Levin after reports of a gas smell on Oxford St.

Emergency services were notified at 10.35am on Saturday of the smell on the stretch of SH1 between Kawiu Rd and Tyne St.

Two fire crews are currently in attendance and providing detour directions.

The Gas Authority is expected to arrive to assess and repair the scene.
