Foodstuffs' Club+ sends fuel voucher emails to wrong customers

Foodstuffs' new Club+ loyalty programme has sent a fuel discount email to customers who were not entitled to the voucher before following up to tell them to disregard it.

The original email told customers they had shopped at Pak'nSave and were eligible for a 15 cents per litre fuel discount but that it had not been applied to their account.

"We can see you shopped at PAK'nSAVE and scanned your Club+ card over the weekend," the email read.

"This made you eligible for a 15cpl fuel discount but unfortunately this wasn't automatically applied to your account."

The email was intended only for customers who had genuinely missed out on the discount. Instead, it was sent to a wider group of Club+ members who had not shopped at the affected stores.

A follow-up email was sent apologising for the error and asking recipients to disregard the original message.

"We're sorry, but the email you recently received about a 15cpl fuel voucher being reissued was sent to you in error," the correction read.

"Please disregard that message, as your account did not experience any errors during this period."

Foodstuffs said the email had been intended for customers who had shopped at four North Island Pak'nSave stores over the weekend.

A spokesperson said the issue was limited to the email communication and its audience, and that every customer genuinely affected had since been issued with the correct fuel discount voucher.

"We have undertaken a review to determine the cause of the error and put measures in place to ensure it doesn't happen again," they said.

Foodstuffs' co-operatives launched the new loyalty scheme last month, which allowed customers to earn and use rewards across its three major brands – Pak'nSave, New World and Four Square.

Consumer last year reported the New World Clubcard, which has been replaced by the new Club+ scheme, had 1.8 million active members.
