Facebook and Instagram users report major outage worldwide

Thousands of people worldwide are reporting issues with social media platforms Facebook and Instagram this morning.

According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, issues began being reported about 9am.

There’s been more than 900 reports in New Zealand within an hour and a further 3900 in Australia.

Tens of thousands of reports have also surfaced in the United Kingdom and United States.

By 10:40am, reports of issues on Downdetector had dropped off significantly, including New Zealand where it was down to just five.

Facebook and Instagram are owned by Meta Platforms.
