Ōtaika fatal shooting: Victim was Kyle Zachary Jenkins, 18, of Whangārei

A motorcyclist found dead in a creek near Whangārei has been identified and police are continuing inquiries into the alleged murder.
The body of 18-year-old Kyle Zachary Jenkins, of Maungatapere, was discovered on State Highway 15-Ōtaika Valley Rd around 5am last Wednesday, January 29.
His motorbike was on the side of the road in a lay-by area.
An autopsy revealed the teenager died as a result of being shot.
Police believe Jenkins was murdered and have launched a homicide investigation.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said: “Our thoughts are with Kyle’s family at this very difficult time.”
The family were continuing to grieve their loss and had asked for privacy at this time.
”Police are continuing to maintain an appeal for information about what took place on the Ōtaika Valley Road layby.
“Our investigation continues to piece together why this tragic event occurred, and identify the person responsible,” Pilmer said.
An online portal has been set up for any footage or photographs to be uploaded.
