Person critical after evening crash south of Waiuku, rural road closed

A scooter rider is in a critical condition after a crash south of Waiuku this evening, which has also closed a road.

Emergency services were called to a serious crash involving a car and scooter on Waiuku-Otaua Rd, between Smith Rd and Misa Rd, around 5.20pm.

A police spokesperson said initial reports suggest the scooter rider has critical injuries.

The road is expected to be closed for some time as the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.

Diversions are in place and motorists should expect delays.

The road sits right alongside the Auckland - Waikato border.
