Male pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Dargaville, Northland, section of SH12 closed

A man is dead after being hit by a car on State Highway 12 on the outskirts of Dargaville, in Northland’s Kaipara district overnight.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash between a car and male pedestrian at the intersection of Murdoch St and Colville Rd at SH12 just after 1.15am.

Police confirmed the man was dead.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern shift manager Garreth Lewis said two fire engines were sent from Dargaville to help police and ambulance officers at about 1.20am.

Murdoch St / SH12 remains closed between Colville Rd and Dargaville Rugby Park.

Hato Hone St John confirmed staff attended the crash but referred further inquiries to police.

Police would like to thank members of the public who stopped to help before emergency services arrived.
