Christchurch teens in Youth Court after alleged attempted ram raid in Riccarton

Two teens will appear in the Youth Court today after allegedly using a vehicle to try and smash into a Christchurch Starbucks this morning.
Police were called to Rotheram St in Riccarton at 12.30am after reports a vehicle was used to gain entry to the cafe.
Inspector Paul Reeves said it damaged a window before leaving.
“A member of the public reported the vehicle, which was subsequently located by police.
"Police successfully deployed road spikes and the vehicle continued for a short distance before being abandoned near the intersection of Waltham Road and Austin Street with all four tyres deflated.
“Two youths were taken into custody.”
A sign pasted to the visibly damaged coffee shop’s window said it was closed “due to unexpected damage”.

Reeves said the pair were facing a raft of charges including aggravated burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, burglary, failing to stop and dangerous driving.
