Police investigate suspicious fire at abandoned house in Seaview, Timaru

Police are guarding the scene of a suspicious fire at an abandoned home in Timaru this morning.

The fire service was called around 3.45am to the blaze on Arthur St in Seaview.

The single-storey house was “well alight” when firefighters arrived, Fire and Emergency southern shift manager Lyn Crossan said. The building appeared to be unoccupied.

The fire had been extinguished and was being treated as suspicious, she said.

A police spokesman said a fire investigator will attend to determine how the fire started,

No injuries had been reported, he said.
