Two winners split Lotto Powerball’s $40m jackpot
The Lotto Powerball $40 million jackpot been won by two ticketholders, who will each receive just over $20.1m each.
The numbers drawn were 1, 12, 18, 29, 22 and 14. The Bonus Ball was 32 and the Powerball 8.
Punters lined up for their chance at life-changing riches, with queues of up to 10 people seen at the Lotto counter in one small South Island supermarket.
Saturday night’s jackpot soared from $35m to $40m after no ticket-holders won Powerball on Wednesday.
Lotto’s biggest individual prize was $44.06m won by a ticket-holder in Auckland a decade ago.
In 2021, a single ticket-holder in Waikato won $42.02m.
The biggest overall Powerball jackpot was $55m last year but three players ended up with their hands in the pot, winning just over $18m each.
Meanwhile, a MyLotto player in New Plymouth who won $14.3m in April is the biggest Powerball winner so far this year.
While the winning ball numbers and prize details are made public on the night, the locations of winners from the bumper draw won’t be released until 11am today under a change that began this month, Lotto said on its website.
“This means players can see that a big prize has been won but have a bit more time to check their ticket before they know where it was won.”

Three Lotto ticket holders struck it lucky in first division in Wednesday’s draw, each receiving just over $333,000.
A single Strike 4 winner nabbed $400,000 on the same night.
An Auckland player became an overnight millionaire after winning the sole $1m Lotto first division prize in last Saturday’s live draw.
What to do if you win
Ticket-holders can see immediately if they have won if they purchased a ticket through MyLotto. Prizes of $1000 or less are automatically credited to the account.
For prizes exceeding $1000, winners must complete an online prize claim form.
Winners with physical tickets must still visit a Lotto retailer to claim their prize.
For the Powerball jackpot to be claimed, a ticket-holder must get all six Lotto numbers correct as well as the added Powerball number.
