Two people have been seriously injured after a crash on a rural Hawke’s Bay road this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a two-car collision on Waimarama Rd, south of Hastings, at about 3.45pm.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews from Hastings and Napier rushed to the scene, working to free a trapped person.

Hato Hone St John said two patients were assessed and treated before they were taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital in a serious condition.

The section of the road is expected to remain closed while emergency services work at the scene and inquiries into the crash continue.

Traffic management is in place and motorists told to expect delays.
