Travellers at Wellington Airport face major disruption with more than 50 flights cancelled amid bad weather and poor visibility.

An airport spokesman said 57 flights had been cancelled today, with disruption intensifying this afternoon.

“Bad weather and poor visibility have caused disruptions at Wellington Airport today and especially in the last hour,” he said.

Passengers were advised to check directly with their airlines for information on specific flights.

The spokesman said some of the cancellations may have been for reasons other than the weather.
