Listen to this article — Sir Stephen Tindall-backed Allevia Health expands with new $90m Remuera building

One of New Zealand’s fastest-growing private hospital and healthcare businesses has signed up to become the anchor tenant of a new $90 million block on Remuera’s “medical mile”.

Culum Manson, managing director of New Zealand’s largest family-owned development business Mansons TCLM, said the under-construction building at 75 Remuera Rd would be called Allevia Health Remuera.

Allevia, 41% owned by The Warehouse founder Sir Stephen Tindall, has leased most of the new building.

Tindall’s stake in Allevia is via Albert Park Trustee Company.

That entity owns 41% of Healthcare Holdings, which trades as Allevia Health and is one of New Zealand’s largest private medical businesses.

Manson said naming rights had also been sold to the Urology Institute, another expanding private medical business, which has many locations in Auckland.

Allevia Health was formerly called Mercy Epsom and Mercy Ascot.

It is a major hospital, specialist and health services business which has vastly expanded premises on Mountain Rd, Epsom.

Andrew Williams, chairman of Onesixone Medical Group, which is half-owned by Allevia, said the move would transform the business.

Onesixone Medical is now at 161 Gillies Ave. Allevia will take most of the building, he said.

Williams is also part of the medical business, the Urology Institute.

“This gives us the opportunity to work with more specialists, offering more services to patients, having scans, being seen by a specialist and being diagnosed all on one visit.

“We’ve got an operating theatre in our Gillies Ave building and will have operating rooms in the new buildings.”

At Allevia Hospital Epsom, $190 million-plus was spent by Tindall and other Allevia owners, who include fertility specialist Richard Fisher.

75 Remuera Rd is due for completion around the middle of next year and Manson said it had been popular due to its location, quality and services.

Only one floor remains available to lease.

It has basement parking and six levels of commercial space.

End-of-trip facilities, retail space, storage and the commercial floors are around 1140sq m.

The upper levels have big views and stud heights were designed to be suitable so the building could operate as surgical or consulting premises.
