How the All Blacks rated in their 34-32 victory over France in Christchurch.

1 Ethan de Groot - 7

Heavy workload for a player who last played on May 23. Made 13 tackles and got a few quick passes in, which are becoming a trademark. Gave away an early penalty but won a scrum penalty as a part of a solid-looking scrum in the first 54 minutes before he went off.

2 Codie Taylor - 7

Had a few early troubles at lineout time, though the lifters might be to blame for one. But came into his own around the field with some charging runs and strong tackles. Finished with 10 carries and 12 tackles.

3 Fletcher Newell - 7

Penalised at scrum early on for ‘long feet’ - that’s a new one. Did plenty around the field and was one of the All Blacks’ top tacklers in the first half before finishing with 13. The scrum didn’t exactly dominate.

4 Josh Lord - 6

Won three lineouts and probably the safest option. If he was competing for a starting spot he may have lost it if Tupou Vaa’i is fit to return next week.

5 Sam Darry - 8

Huge test for the relative newcomer. Plenty of charging runs early on and finished as the top tackler (21). Reliable lineout option with one miss, but blame the lifters.

6 Peter Lakai - 5

Quiet early on but got across the tryline with space out wide and a nice link up with Caleb Clarke. But not sure he should have been so wide. Missed a few tackles early on and was relatively ineffective at the breakdown. Made some strong runs though. Replaced by Wallace Sititi in the 53rd minute.

7 Luke Jacobson- 7

Had him as the worst performing player in the first half after giving away a few penalties and was light on tackles. But bounced back with a very strong half. Ended as equal top tackler with 21. Good delivery to put Jordan away. Looked more effective when Sititi came on.

8 Ardie Savea - 8

Not exactly captain fantastic but not far off. Finished with most All Blacks carries (13) and was one of the top tacklers. Key turnover before the Will Jordan try. Impactful until the final whistle.

9 Cam Roigard - 8

Antoine Dupont would have had a battle on his hands if he turned up. Typical top-class Roigard outing.

10 Ruben Love - 6

Not the best start to the test season with a trip to the bin early on. But deserves another starting role against Italy. Not the biggest touch finders from penalties while he also kicked possession away after the All Blacks tapped on a penalty. Ran strong at the line. Only kicked the ball five times.

11 Caleb Clarke - 6

The ball didn’t come his way as often as the right wing but he did well in tight areas. Had eight carries in the first half including a good link-up to put Lakai away. Didn’t need to do much in the air.

12 Jordie Barrett - 6

A rusty test for a player usually so reliable. Finished with two assists but gave away a penalty which resulted in three points, while losing two turnovers in first half including one in an attacking area. Was a good play to put Roigard away.

13 Quinn Tupaea- 6

Got stuck on the blind side in lead-up to France’s opening try and then produced a high tackle off kickoff ball. Strong second quarter. Left the field in the 59th minute, replaced by Billy Proctor.

14 Will Jordan - 7

Best fullback in the world on the wing? It looks like a good move when he gets plenty of ball, finishing with 11 carries - the most of any All Blacks back. Wouldn’t be an All Blacks test without a Jordan try.

15 Damian McKenzie - 5

Looked most comfortable running the ball but lacked execution at times including throwing an interception. Slotted into first-five well with Love in the bin. Had a mixed kicking game with a few across field kicks to Clarke that failed to hit their mark. Missed four tackles and turned the ball over three times.

Bench:

16 Asafo Aumua - 5

On for Taylor in 61st. Fine but didn’t do enough to win the number two jersey.

17 Xavier Numia - 4

On at 54th min for Newell. Missed three tackles in short time on the field but also made 10. No noticeable change at scrum time.

18 Tyrel Lomax - 5

On at 54th min for de Groot. Four tackles and three carries.

19 Jamie Hannah - 4

Late call-up to replace Patrick Tuipolutu. Came on for Lord to make his debut. Gave ball away.

20 Wallace Sititi - 5

On at 54th min for Lakai. Busy, what you want off the bench, with seven carries.

21 Cortez Ratima - 4

On for the last five minutes and run over for the final try.

22 Billy Proctor - 6

On for Tupaea in 62nd. Won the counter-ruck in lead up to Jordan’s try.

23 Fehi Fineanganofo - 5

On for Clarke. Made a couple of runs for a total of 13m so not much of an impact. But did beat a defender, won’t be the last.
