A pedestrian has died after a crash in Dargaville early on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash between a car and the male pedestrian at the intersection of Murdoch Street and Colville Road just after 1.15am.

When they arrived the pedestrian was already dead, police said in a statement.

Murdoch Street is currently closed between Colville Road and Dargaville Rugby Park.

“We would like to thank the members of the public who stopped to help before emergency services arrived,” the police statement said.

Police want to hear from anyone not yet spoken to who may have witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam footage of the incident.

They can be contacted on their 105 service quoting reference number P066595475.
