New year, new Stuff! Loooootttsss of new stuff.
We’re so thrilled to show off the brand new Stuff website and apps. This has been a massive project for our team and it’s so exciting to unleash it to New Zealanders today. It’s the Stuff you know and love, powered by a new world-class tech stack that makes us faster, more flexible, and ready for whatever the future holds.
So, what’s new?
Aside from a general glow up on our colours and styling, you’ll notice a few changes to how you get around the site and find your favourite content. If you’re an app user, you need to upgrade to the latest version to see all this good stuff and to continue to receive the latest stories. What are you waiting for?
For our audience:
Streamlined navigation: At the top of the site you’ll see quick links to get you to the most popular parts of the site - NZ news and sport, as well as podcasts, and quizzes - with much more available from the full menu at the top left.
Stuff Shorts: Our wildly popular vertical videos are now higher up the homepage.
Your read stories: It’s easier to see what’s new on Stuff, because the stories you’ve already read are now greyed out.
Latest, breaking news: The latest updates from our journalists around the motu are bang, smack at the top of the site now, in a jaunty pale red.
NZ news: Formerly known as National, NZ news is the stories of and for Aotearoa - from politics to people stories to those Kiwi-as tales such as our nation’s most annoying and frankly stupid streets. Regional news from our titles such as Taranaki Daily News and Nelson Mail can be found under Stuff Family in the top left menu.
- New Money: The cost of living crisis is on the minds of all New Zealanders, so we’ve elevated our Money section on the homepage. Stuff’s brilliant Money Editor, Susan Edmunds, and her team will help you navigate house prices, supermarket prices, interest rates, investing - everything relating to your bottom line.
For our advertisers:
Our new tech stack is fast and flexible, and essentially means any ad, anywhere, instantly, so every campaign gets the attention it deserves.
“We’ve invested in high-impact positions that can be switched on at a moment’s notice. It’s not just about what the new technology allows us to do today, but what it will enable our partners to do tomorrow. It will give our advertisers even more reasons to love Stuff,” says Matt Headland, Managing Director of Brand Connections.

What else?
Some familiar features from the previous site haven’t been carried over to the new version of Stuff, either because they weren’t overly popular, or because we can deliver them in a better format in the future. These include the search function and the weather location feature, and for apps in particular it includes compact view, most recent order and home screen regional feeds.
You’ll also see that we’ve greatly reduced the number of sections we have on the site. These will change and grow in line with the interests of our audience, although the homepage Most Popular module will certainly be back soon.
What’s next?
So, so much.
Today is the first day in what will be ongoing improvements and launches across Stuff products. Our website now runs on global-leading digital technology that allows us to constantly evolve and improve features for our audience and our commercial customers, so expect to see new things constantly arriving on Stuff.
As part of that, we’ll be increasingly able to serve you content that is specific to your interests, so if you’re not already, sign up to become a Stuffie (member) to ensure you’re getting the best out of our site every day.
We hope you love our refreshed design and superior functionality, and we’d love to hear what you think about it. Email me with your feedback.
