Designs for new Auckland rail stations released
Saturday, 3 March 2018
They may just be holes in the ground now, but artist impressions just released promise Aucklanders sleek and glossy new rail stations as part of the massive City Rail Link project.
Under the City Rail Link plans two new stations will be built: Aotea and Karangahape.
Aotea Station will be the new mid-town station near Wellesley and Victoria St and is expected to be New Zealand's busiest train station.
The present Mount Eden Station will also be extended to cover both the existing Kingsland to Grafton line and the new Central Rail Link.

Communications manager Carol Greensmith said: 'The City Rail Link project has been around for a while. We've started six years ago, and the design work has evolved.'
'The latest design, released this morning, are part of that evolution.'
There will also be minor changes to Britomart Station but it will largely remain the same, as a heritage building.
Greensmith said the CRL team had spoken 'with a lot of people' to come up with the design including manu whenua and public art organisations.
'We have had only positive feedback.'
The estimated completion date is for 2023/24.
