Wednesday, 13 June 2018
The Auckland City Mission will receive $16.7 million from the government to create new drug and alcohol addiction treatment facilities.
The funding for the project will be drawn from money recovered under the Criminal Proceeds Recovery Act Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said.
'This will be the largest spend from crime our government has ever done - we're using money collected through misery to end misery,' she said.
Ardern and Health Minister David Clark announced the funding at the Auckland City Mission on Wednesday.

The funding will help build two-floors at the Mission, to house 30 studio units for people recovering from addiction.
Auckland City Mission CEO Chris Farrelly said the facilities were needed as drug and alcohol addiction was destroying the lives of New Zealand families.
'We want our centre to be an environment of wellness and care for those who are living and working in it.'
Currently there are 20 detox beds funded across Auckland, with the help of this funding there will be 30 beds all centrally located in Auckland central in the next two years.
