Search for fisherman missing at west Auckland's Bethells Beach enters third day
Tuesday, 8 January 2019
Search and rescue teams are continuing to scour one of Auckland's west coast beaches for a fisherman who has been missing since Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Callum McNeill said the large-scale search for Korean man, Myung Kang, 57, at Bethells Beach included search and rescue teams, lifeguards and the police Eagle helicopter.
He was last seen on Saturday and his family became concerned after he didn't come home from his fishing trip, reporting him as missing to police on Sunday night.
Police believe he had been fishing on his own.

McNeill said police began searching for Kang and his white 2011 Toyota Prius on Sunday night.
It has since been found in the Bethells Beach car park, McNeill said.
'Saturday was a hot day and a large number of people took the opportunity to spend some time at Bethells Beach, so we are hopeful that someone has seen Mr Kang with his fishing gear,' he said.
'We are appealing to the public to come forward with any sightings of Mr Kang.
'Police appreciate that this is a very difficult and worrying time for Mr Kang's family and we are providing them with support.'
