Train services across Auckland have been cancelled or delayed during Thursday's morning rush.

Auckland Transport said about 9am trains across the southern and eastern lines were running at a reduced frequency because of a train fault at Puhinui.

Earlier, services across the southern, western and eastern lines were delayed or cancelled.

'Scheduled buses are accepting all train tickets and AT HOP cards,' Auckland Transport said.

The Onehunga and western line services were running to scheduled timetable, it said.

A commuter on the western Line told Stuff that a train manager said the power grid westbound was failing.

The train manager also told commuters there were 'major power outages across the network' and 'units have been crippled across the network'.
