No leads on missing man Laurence Wu despite $200,000 reward

Wednesday, 7 August 2019

Guoquan (Laurence) Wu has been missing since March 10. His family are urging the public for any information on his disappearance.

Almost five months since Laurence Wu went missing, his family has arrived back in New Zealand in a bid to find any trace of him, 'dead or alive.'

Guoquan Wu, 22, also known as Laurence, was last seen about 1.40pm on March 10 at St Lukes Liquor Centre in Auckland.

The last anyone heard of him was later that day when Wu called his ex-girlfriend and told her he was going to Piha, on the West Auckland coast, according to friend Sandy Li.

His family came over from the south of Guangzhou, China, when Wu first went missing - but had to return home after a few weeks.

His brother, Lucas Wu, said in the past few months there has been no developments, despite the $200,000 reward.

According to Wu, only a few people have gone to the police with information and all have turned out to be dead ends.

'Ever since we went back to China we feel sad because we know he is somewhere in New Zealand.

'We live so far in China, the distance means we can't do anything from China.'

Mother Gui Ting Huang, translated by Lucas, said she believed her son was alive somewhere and that was why they were back.

Wu previously told Stuff that his 'brother is a happy one, funny - a little bit' and was not the type to harm himself.

The family planned to circulate more fliers while they were here, including in the South Island, where Laurence visited twice in 2018.

'If anyone knows anything please call the number on the bottom of the flier.'
