Speed limits on parts of Western Rd could be slashed by as much as 40km an hour as part of changes outlined by Rotorua Lakes Council.

RLC is asking for feedback on proposed changes to the speed limits on 24 Rotorua roads.

Western Rd SH5 to Brake Rd would see the biggest reduction from the current 100km/hr to 60km/hr.

Speed limit reductions are also proposed for Tarawera Rd (100km/hr to 80km/h), Okareka Loop Rd (100km/hr to 80mk/h), Vaughan Rd (70km/h to 50km/h), Hamurana Rd (down to 70km/h) and Paradise Valley Ed (100km/h to 80km/h).

Council conducts speed limit reviews approximately every three years, focusing on roads that have been subject to public submissions (mainly through annual plan consultation), roads where changes have occurred (e.g. development) or for some other specific reason (e.g. recommendation from a Coroner's report).

This latest review was conducted during 2017 and the decision to proceed with public consultation for all 24 roads was made at the full Council meeting on November 23, 2017.

Submissions can be made until Thursday, March 1 in person, online www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/koreromai, via email at submissions@rotorualc.nz or via post at Rotorua Lakes Council, Private Bag 3029, Rotorua 3046.
