Sylvia Park is opening a new parking building with 600 parks to ease congestion at the country's largest mall as Christmas shopping gets underway.

The owner of Sylvia Park, Kiwi Property, said the building would be open to the public from 9am on Friday.

Easy to see with green panels on the outside, the five-storey building was on the eastern side of the shopping centre, close to the railway line.

The building had seven charging stations for electric vehicles, five spaces for parents with prams and 12 accessible parks.

'It is equipped with state of the art traffic management, indicating available parking which links to the Sylvia Park website allowing you to see the percentage of available parks in each parking area,' Kiwi Property said.

A valet service had also started. It was near the Glassons/Hallensteins entrance.

The valet team would park the vehicle for $10 for three hours and $5 for each additional hour.

Valet parking was available from Thursday to Sunday, opening at 10.00am.

From December 13, valet parking would be open every day until Christmas.

The new parking building is part of a $233 million expansion of Sylvia Park expected to be completed by mid 2020.

Construction of the new building cost $36.3m and started last April.

'The opening of the new car park will bring the overall number of parks at Sylvia Park to around 4,000.

'As you can imagine with the construction of this car park, the Galleria ( the new retail area) and our next multi level car park due to open in 2020 the number of car parks fluctuates but we are glad to confirm that we will have around 4,000 spaces available for Christmas this year,' Linda Trainer, general manager of retail at Kiwi Property said.
