Westpac Stadium's naming deal will end at the end of this year.

The stadium unofficially known as the 'Cake Tin' will no longer be officially known as Westpac Stadium from next year.

Wellington Regional Stadium Trust and Westpac have announced a sponsorship deal for naming rights over Wellington's stadium will come to an end at the end of the year.

Westpac has sponsored the stadium since it opened in 2000. But Westpac brand manager Graham Wright said 'the time is right' to look for other sponsorship opportunities.

'We are very happy that our long-term contribution has played a major role in cementing the stadium as one of the city’s landmark destinations.'

Wright said the move was part of a move by Westpac away from sponsoring sport towards community sponsorship.

Stadium Chief Executive Shane Harmon said the Trust was 'incredibly grateful' to Westpac for one of the longest naming rights partnerships in New Zealand sport.

“We are also excited by the opportunity of welcoming a new naming rights partner on board and entering a new chapter in the stadium’s story.'

Westpac NZ will continue to support the stadium until the contract ends on 31 December 2019.
