Burger King compensates wrongly trespassed customer in Timaru
Monday, 29 April 2019
David Eymael, who was wrongly banned from Burger King for two years over a pricing dispute last month, has received a written apology from the franchise along with $40 in vouchers as compensation.
A loyal customer, Eymael got into a dispute with the drive thru staff in Timaru when they charged him $5.70 for his regular breakfast muffin instead of the usual price of $5.40.
The fast food chain had recently put up its prices but, as it later admitted, had failed to alter the advertised price in the Timaru branch.
'The incident happened on the Tuesday/Wednesday… [the general manager] rang me on Saturday morning while I was at work and gave me an apology over the phone and said he would send me one over the internet, which he did in email form, and also said he'd follow up with a written apology which he has.

'He has been great, so I'm pleased.
'He revoked my trespass order on the Saturday morning and told staff at Burger King to let me back in there. Since then I've been going there regularly and now I can go in and get some free ones.'
Eymael has remained an advocate for the 'very fresh' muffins which he says are better than other brands around New Zealand.
'Since the incident I've met a lot of people who have now tried them and like them … they've had the odd Burger King product but I've now put them on to the muffin.'
Eymael has also become a bit of a local celebrity since the dispute hit the news.
'In the supermarket I get recognised, some people call me the muffin man and I don't mind that.'
