First look at Westfield Newmarket's rooftop dining opening this week

Take a tour of Westfield Newmarket's rooftop dining area.

The rooftop dining area inside New Zealand's biggest mall, Westfield New Market, with expansive views of Rangitoto Island and central Auckland opens with eight restaurants on Thursday.

The dining precinct on level four is part of a $790 million redevelopment and will be the city's first rooftop dining and lifestyle area.

Chef and restaurateur Nic Watt's Inca as well as White + Wong's third restaurant and The Bavarian, a German-themed food and beer restaurant will open this week.

Scentre Group regional manager Paul Gardner said the fourth floor dining area  flows into the cinema and has separate parking for 300 car.

Gardner said the area had a capacity of about 1700 people and 10 restaurants.

Fast food restaurants including Mad Mex, Eat Indian and KFC are on the level below.

The restaurant will feature South American fare and is opening in Auckland's central Newmarket.

Rainwater is used for the central water feature and to irrigate the plants on the 'living walls' and for some of the toilets.

On Wednesday afternoon about 500 construction workers were adding finishing touches ahead of the opening.

The mall has been inspired by Westfield Bondi Junction in Sydney.

The 4.5 hectare site consists of two buildings connected by a sky bridge and 2700 car parks.

The mall launched a valet service that allows customers to leave purchases to be collected and delivered to their car.

Farmers, Coco Republic and Chemist Warehouse have already opened stores.

The mall's third and final stage is due to open in December and will add Auckland's first David Jones, an H&M store and a Countdown supermarket.

Scentre Group owns 41 Westfield malls in Australia and New Zealand.
