Thursday, 3 September 2020

A large fire at a campervan business near Auckland Airport broke out on September 3,2020, destroying an office and workshop. Two of the trucks broke down on arrival.

Tourism Holdings Limited boss says the “devastating” fire at its Mangere site in Auckland where 19 fire trucks were called on Thursday morning will leave the site inoperable for weeks.

In an announcement to the NZX, THL chief executive Grant Webster said about 10 motorhomes had been damaged and there was “substantial damage” to the building that houses the office and workshop.

“Our insurance provider has been notified and we are in communication with them regarding the situation.”

Webster told Stuff there were about 200 vehicles including Maui, Britz and Motorhome at the site.

“It’s a severe fire that has clearly impacted the building some vehicles have been lost, but we don’t understand how many yet. Most importantly everybody’s safe. Nobody was on site and we’ll work through it today.”

Webster said there were no staff at the site this morning when the fire started.

THL also had about 60 staff working at the site who would be moved to others sites

“We have multiple sites. It’s not going to be material in terms of the whole THL company but obviously it’s devastating for us and customers.”
