Man arrested after ramming police cars in Napier pursuit

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man involved in a Hawke's Bay car chase that saw three police cars rammed and officers injured.
The patrol cars were damaged after a motorist driving a stolen Volvo failed to stop for police on Marine Parade in Napier at around 10.30am Monday.

A pursuit began, however, a police spokeswoman said it was abandoned for safety reasons with road spikes successfully deployed on Williams St.
The vehicle involved was abandoned on Seddon Crescent with the driver taking off on foot.

A witness at the scene said police had been searching for the driver since 11.50am near Seddon Avenue. She said he was found in a garage before being ushered into a police car.
Three officers were injured during the incident with one suffering a suspected broken finger and two others receiving bruises and sprains as result of the airbag going off.
It's not known how many passengers were in the car at the time.
The spokeswoman said charges were likely.
