Sewerage pipe fails in Eastbourne

A main sewerage pipe has failed in Eastbourne, leading to urgent repairs.

A joint failed in the main outfall pipeline at Muritai Road in Eastbourne, a Hutt City Council spokesman said.

The pipeline runs from the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Pencarrow Head outfall.

'It is a vital component of the Hutt Valley and Wainuiomata wastewater system, as all treated wastewater is pumped through this pipe.'

The repair work will require diverting treated effluent from the Seaview plant to the overflow pipe in the lower Waiwhetu Stream, for about four days.
