Five Auckland open homes we'd happily spend our weekend wandering through

Saturday, 11 July 2026

We've picked five of the most interesting, and beautiful properties offering open homes this weekend. Take a look...

Auckland remains New Zealand's property powerhouse, with the country's highest median sale price, but it is currently the nation's most undervalued housing market.

This weekend's open home picks showcase the city's incredible diversity, from a $6.25 million Remuera family home with sweeping Rangitoto views to a beautifully reimagined Ponsonby villa.

Whether you're drawn to heritage charm, cutting-edge architecture or contemporary living, there's an open home to suit every taste - and almost every budget - across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Each week, we bring you our favourite open homes to hit up in a town or suburb near you. This week, our focus is on Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland. Whether you’re eager to buy, or simply a perpetual property peruser, you’ll find an open home worth taking a peek at here each Saturday morning.

The nation’s international gateway and economic powerhouse, Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland needs no introduction.

Suffice it to say, property is always big news in Aotearoa’s answer to the Big Apple. Its architecture is as diverse as its population. It’s also some of the most expensive, and desirable.

According to Opes Partners, however, in May, Auckland was highly undervalued. It was 9.5% below where they would normally expect prices to be, making it the single most undervalued region in the country that month.

That doesn’t mean the city was suddenly becoming cheap as chips. At the same time, REINZ put Auckland’s median sale price at $1,005,000, compared to $775,000 nationally.

Herne Bay remains the most expensive suburb in the city, according to Cotality, with its eye-watering median sales price of $3,011,600.

Compare that to some of the more affordable suburbs, such as Clendon Park ($690,000), Māngere ($680,000) and Ōtāhuhu ($835,000) and you can see just how diverse the city’s property market really is.

So, with all that in mind, here are the homes we’d like to view in Auckland this weekend:

The one with the views

The home at 155 Arney Rd, Remuera, has belonged to the same family for 50 years, which is about as high a praise as any home can get - they loved it so much they didn’t want to leave for half a century. Flicking through the pics, however, it’s a toss up between the house and the views over what captivated them for so long.

Inside, it’s an ode to the functionality of Brutalism.

The 1920s-built home has one of those gracious verandahs the arts and crafts movement was expert at. It overlooks the local sports ground, all the way out to picture-postcard views of Rangitoto. G and Ts at sunset anyone?

With a CV of $6,250,000, this seven-bed home is for sale by negotiation. The listing is with Louise De Martin for NZSIR.

The vintage classic

If there’s one kind of home that’s most associated with Auckland, it’s the double-bay Victorian villa. From the street, the one at 6 Ardmore Rd, in Ponsonby, is a gorgeous example of this vintage style, with steep gables, stained glass and filigree details.

The property harks back to a vintage style home, but with clean, modern lines.

Inside, however, it is something else entirely: an architecturally reimagined, modern home, with a touch of Brutalism for added zing. The rear communal parts of the home were fully remodelled by Jones Architects to create a private, ultra-modern retreat from the world from concrete and glass.

The interior is simple and sleek, with room for the whole family.

With a CV of $3,075,000, this three-bed, two lounge home is for sale by negotiation. The listing is with Matt O'Brien for Barfoot and Thompson.

Open home times: Saturday, July 11, 11am - 11:30am; Sunday, July 12, 2pm - 2:30pm.

The dream family home

The home is packed with mid-century charm.

There’s something about a Californian bungalow that exudes cosy comfort. Maybe it’s the protruding eaves, or the glittering lead lights around the entrance, or the long, low slope of the roofline. It’s a charming, rustic style home and Kiwis love ’em.

The 1910-built home at 27 Empire Rd, in Epsom is a good example of this period’s lean into cosiness. It’s been renovated extensively for modern living, but this is a place to be filled with whānau and friends, with a kitchen designed for cooking big family feasts in.

With a CV of $4,825,000, this five-bed home is for sale by negotiation. The listing is with Wendy Sadd and Lauren Lam for Barfoot and Thompson.

Open home times: Sunday, July 12, 2pm - 2:30pm.

The new build

Don’t let this lush list of vintage gems convince you we've got something against new builds. This three-bed, brick townhouse in Grafton caught our eye immediately.

Ranging over three levels, the home is one of an identical row of seven on Madeira Lane that each come with an enclosed, internal garage, a winter garden and two bathrooms. It’s also a freehold title, so no body corp. It’s sleek and simple, but harks back to an older style of home, and the formerly commercial area it was built in.

With a CV of $1,800,000, the home is on the market by negotiation. The listing is with Michael Boulgaris for Boulgaris Realty.

Open home times: Saturday, July 11, 12pm - 1pm

The architectural gem

Last but not least, a once-in-a-lifetime home that captured the hearts of its owners. We shared this Northcote home with you back in March, and it is inexplicably still on the market.

Designed by the legendary Group Architects in the 60s, you can get a peek around this unique home this weekend. Read more about it here before you pop along, but don’t miss a chance to see a home created by pioneers of a uniquely Kiwi style of building.

With a CV of $1,950,000, the three-bed home is on the market by negotiation. The listing is with Elaine Ferguson for Ray White.

Open home times: Saturday, July 11, 12pm - 12:30pm.
