Watch policeman propose to his boyfriend after graduating at police college, and try not to cry
Thursday, 28 June 2018
As if graduating from Police College wasn't exciting enough, one new constable decided he'd take a knee and pop the question mid-ceremony.
Anticipation built, a few words were shared, and the room erupted with enthusiastic applause – his boyfriend said yes.
The proposal was made at Thursday's Police College graduation, the conclusion of a four-month training programme in Wellington for new recruits.
People around the country have joined in the celebration on social media.

'I could watch that all day. Yay love! Congrats!' one enthusiastic user commented.
'Woohoo! Congratulations ki a kōrua. Just gorgeous,' another said.
Police said they wanted to give the couple a day to celebrate before making any further comment.
In 2016, the London Pride parade was halted twice for police officers to propose to their same-sex partners.
Inspector Aaron Clarke, who led that parade, said it showed the message of the police reflecting the communities it served.
'Many older members of the LGBT community will remember a different style of policing, so it was an honour and a privilege to show them just how much the British Police service has changed and diversified.'
