Lego gets fast and furious

Thursday, 2 April 2020

Now you can Doms
Now you can Doms' Charger from The Fast and the Furious in all its blocky Lego glory.

Lego has revealed its latest set with strong petrolhead appeal and if only it had come out a month earlier, lockdown would be far easier to endure - it is a replica of Dominic Toretto's supercharged Dodge Charger R/T from the Fast and Furious franchise.

When fully assembled the 1,077-piece Charger is 39cm long, 16cm wide and 11cm high, and can even be 'posed' doing a wheelstand, just like it improbably did (a wheelie AND a burnout?) in the original film, which was achieved by using a hydraulic ram set up that looked remarkably like the stand on the Lego model, actually.

And, yes, it can be posed in a wheelie.

The also Charger features details like fully-functional suspension, steering and moving pistons.

There is some disagreement among muscle car fans as to what the Charger in the original movie actually was, with it being listed as a 1970 Charger R/T, but a number of fans insisting it is actually a 1969 Charger with a 1970 nose fitted.

The Charger features working steering and suspension, as well as that glorious supercharged V8.

This model won't clear that disagreement up, but given the extreme customisation done on most cars to feature in the franchise, we would suggest that it really doesn't matter anyway.

The Charger is listed on Lego's website now as a pre-order for $189 and will be released on the 27th of April. However, Lego's website currently has a disclaimer saying that due to the current lockdown restrictions, it isn't delivering to New Zealand.

Which is a shame because it would be the perfect way to while away a few hours in lockdown…

Now that we have the Charger, however, we just need to hope Lego carries on with the Fast and Furious theme and gives us a sweet brick version of the Toyota Supra Paul Walker's character Brian O'Conner drove in the movie, so we can all reenact that drag race from the first movie in plastic-brick glory.
