BMW confirms electric Mini price for NZ

Mini New Zealand has confirmed the price of the all-electric Mini hatch ahead of its debut in August.

The three-door Mini Electric will start selling at $59,900 in a limited launch specification, which includes four colour choices, 17-inch wheels in either 'Electric Power' or 'Tentacle' spoke forms, the former paired with White Silver and Midnight Black colours and the latter with Chili Red and British Racing Green.

Other highlights include adaptive LED headlights, a specific Mini Electric interior, heated leather seats up front, a head-up display, a digital dash and a Harman Kardon audio system.

Power is sourced from a 32.6kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a 135kW electric motor mounted on the front wheels. Range is rated at 233km, which isn't bad for the size of the battery. Using a 50kW DC charger, the battery will go from zero to 80 per cent in 35 minutes.

The Mini Electric is going up against the established Hyundai Ioniq and Nissan Leaf. Mini reckons the 'go-kart' driving feel of its EV will trounce its rivals, despite the other two offering more range for a similar price.
