Nissan New Zealand has detailed the local version of the redesigned Juke, due here in June.

The second-generation Juke will come with a turbocharged 1.0-litre triple making 84kW/180Nm while sipping 5.8L/100km of fuel. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, the new engine is apparently built with knowhow from the GT-R that reduces piston friction and improves fuel consumption.

“The new Nissan Juke is a further example of Nissan disrupting automotive conventions, as we did with the launch of original Juke in 2010,” says Nissan New Zealand Managing Director, John Manley.

The new Juke looks better but still retains some of the 'quirky' characteristics of the original.

“It’s bigger outside, more spacious and luxurious inside, and with its connected cabin and stirring driving dynamics, I’m confident the a all-new Nissan JUKE will once again reset the bar for small SUVs in New Zealand.'

The 1.0-litre turbo triple is made with GT-R tech. Not that it will be anywhere near as fast.

The new Juke is due here in June. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up to the competition.

The new Juke is a tad bigger than the model it replaces, measuring 4210mm in length (+75mm), 1800mm in width (+35mm) and 1595mm in height (+30mm), all with a kerb weight of 1274kg.

Factoring in an increased wheelbase, lower rear floor and redesigned front seats means improved interior space, especially for rear-seat passengers, where knee room has increased by 5.8cm and headroom has increased by 1.1cm.

Rear occupants also benefit from a larger rear door aperture and a 12mm lower hip point and both outboard rear seats get Isofix child-seat mounts.

In this new model, the rear luggage space is accessed via a lower load lip, leading to a larger cargo area, now rated at 422 litres. The rear has retained its 60/40-split fold-down function to expand the cargo space to 1305 litres for larger items.

Safety is well taken care of too, with a five-star ANCAP rating already awarded.

As well as front, seat-mounted front-side and full-length curtain airbags, active safety gizmos like forward collision warning and intelligent emergency braking (including the capability to detect pedestrians and cyclists) are included as standard.

Traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and intelligent lane intervention, automatic headlights, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and intelligent driver alert also all appear as standard in the Juke ST.

Stepping up to the ST-L adds front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, moving object detection and intelligent cruise control. Finally, the Ti model adds tyre-pressure monitoring to the already extensive safety features list.

Nissan's ProPilot semi-autonomous technology - which offers electronically assisted steering, acceleration and braking - will be available on the Juke for the first time as well

The new Juke will dot down here in June, with pricing starting from $32,990 for the ST, $37,990 for the ST-L and $44,390 for the Ti.
