Chevrolet's clever new Multi-Flex tailgate can be used in a number of different useful configurations.

Chevrolet has re-invented the pick-up truck tailgate with a clever multi-mode design available as an option for the 2021 Silverado 1500 launched in the US this week.

Chevy’s Multi-Flex Tailgate will offer Silverado customers six unique functions, allowing for easier access to bed cargo, enhanced loading solutions and also offering a standing desk workstation.

The Silverado 1500 is available in New Zealand through the GM Specialty Vehicles brand following conversion to right-hand-drive in Melbourne.

The design provides a convenient foot step for access to the load area or an integrated barrier that allows long loads to be transported in an extended length configuration. It also allows easier access when lifting heavy items into the load area.

The Multi-Flex system is combined with the Silverado Durabed which features LED lighting, a 120-volt outlet and 12 fixed tie-downs to make the 2021 model the most functional and capable Silverado ever. The Multi-Flex Tailgate will be available in North America from 2021 on all new Silverado 1500 models.

In North America there are seven different engine/transmission variants available for the MY21 Silverado 1500 ranging from a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol to the 6.2-litre V8.

For Australasia the RHD-converted Silverado 1500 models have the 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V8 developing 313kW and 624Nm paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
