Mazda updates the MX-5 with even better handling
Friday, 18 March 2022
Mazda has given the MX-5 an update for 2022, including a new GT model.
The Roadster GT gets Bilstein suspension, Brembo front brakes with red calipers, a front suspension tower brace as well as special 17-inch gunmetal BBS forged rims to set it apart from the standard models.
Power comes from the familiar 2.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-four, which produces 135kW and 205Nm, sent through a six-speed manual to the rear wheels.
All new MX-5s now get Kinematic Posture Control, which is a new piece of kit that helps improve handling. It can recognise speed differences in the rear wheels while cornering and apply a small amount of brake on the inner wheel.

According to Mazda, this prevents rear-end lift, stabilising the car during hard cornering and on rough roads – good news for Kiwi buyers.
Also new to the range is a new colour, Platinum Quartz Metallic, which “unites an elegant silky white with quartz-like translucency.”
Each MX-5 comes with a five-year warranty, five years of roadside assistance and a three-year/100,000km servicing plan at no extra cost.
And, to help on the environmental front, Mazda plants five native trees for every new car sold, which helps pull CO2 from the atmosphere, provide habitats for native birds, and improve water quality, as well as keeping the country beautiful.
The new 2022 Mazda MX-5 range is available from Mazda dealerships nationwide. The MX-5 Roadster GT and MX-5 RF Limited six-speed manual models start at $54,990, while the MX-5 RF Limited automatic asks $56,490.
