Waitomo Petrol's new station could push down prices at Palmerston North pumps

A new petrol station expected to drive down prices at Palmerston North pumps is ready to open.
Waitomo Petroleum has built a new self-service station on the corner of Tremaine Ave and Roy St, at the site of the old Libertyland clothing factory next to Lychway Funeral Directors.
It opens on Tuesday
Managing director Jimmy Ormsby said the new fuel station would strengthen the company's network across Manawatu and lower North Island.
He said the fuel station included technology to reduce vapour emissions when people filled up and when tankers delivered petrol.

It helped reduce emissions and stops fuel vapour from escaping into the atmosphere or being inhaled.
'It doesn't change the amount of petrol you are dispensing.
'It simply captures the vapour that would normally be displaced out of the fuel tank and escape into the atmosphere. It is a positive thing for the environment and our customers' health,' Ormsby said.
He said expanding to Palmerston North was a logical step.
'We have had a lot of positive feedback and support for both our Foxton and Bulls fuel stops.'
Waitomo Fuel Stop manager Paul Easton said they would have people on site for the first three weeks to help customers get used to the pay and pump facilities, but after that it would be un-manned.
'Waitomo is known for its competitive fuel prices, which is ultimately what all New Zealand motorists and transport operators want.'
The company was tiny in comparison with big oil companies, but it was trying to be a competitive player in the market.
'We are just like most other Kiwi businesses in this respect.'
Easton said Waitomo was looking to expand further into the lower North Island.
