Man dies in forestry accident

A man is dead after a tree fell on him near near Ashhurst in Manawatū. 

The tree fell on the man during a forestry operation, police say.

Emergency services were called to a property near Ashhurst on Ridge Rd, Pohangina, at 10.40am on Tuesday. 

A rescue helicopter rushed to the scene, but the man died at the scene.

WorkSafe has been notified and is investigating.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
