One dead, nine injured in crash near Otago town of Kingston

One person has died and nine others have been injured in a serious crash between a bus and a rental car just weeks after a similar fatal crash on the same road.
The crash happened on State Highway 6, the Kingston-Garston Highway, just after 7.20am on Thursday.
St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said one person was critically injured, two suffered moderate injuries and six had minor injuries.
He said the critically injured patient was flown to Dunedin Hospital, while the two moderate and six minor injured patients were taken to Lakes District Hospital.

The collision happened at the top of a rise on a straight piece of road, about 2 or 3 kilometres south of Kingston.
The bus ended up up a bank on the left of the road. The car appeared to be underneath or against the front of the bus.
Otago Lakes-Central area commander Inspector Olaf Jensen said it was too early to determine the cause of the crash.
He said the bus, which was carrying 14 passengers, and the car collided head-on.
Senior Sergeant Glenn Wilkinson said the person who died was the passenger in the rental car. The car's driver was critically injured.
The road reopened about 3.45pm. The serious crash unit is investigating the crash.
Three people were seriously injured in a two-car crash at the Devil's Staircase on State Highway 6, about 12 kilometres north of Kingston, on October 12.
A man with serious injuries was flown to Dunedin Hospital and two people with minor injuries were taken to Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown.
Just two days later, a car and a bus carrying 14 tourists collided near the Devil's Staircase, killing 25-year-old Harpreet Singh.
Police wanted to speak to the driver of a dark-coloured vehicle that was behind the bus involved in the latest incident just before it crashed.
