Searchers scour Auckland's Bethells Beach for missing fisherman
Monday, 7 January 2019
Police and surf life-savers are scouring one of Auckland's west coast beaches for a fisherman who hasn't been seen for more than 24 hours.
A police spokeswoman said the man was believed to have gone fishing around the Bethells Beach area.
A relative initially reported his absence about 5pm on Sunday, she said.
'Police received a call from someone who said their dad hadn't returned from a fishing trip.'
She said it was believed the man was in his 50s and was out fishing on his own.
Police were treating the case as a missing person incident, she said.
