One burnt in Waikato house fire

The house on Mahi Rd was well ablaze when fire crews arrived at the scene.

One person sustained burns before escaping a blazing house in Te Kauwhata.

Fire and Emergency NZ were alerted to the fire by ambulance shortly before 6.30am on Monday, northern communications shift manager Carren Larking said.

The 10-by-eight-metre dwelling on Mahi Rd was well ablaze when fire crews arrived at the scene.

One person was burnt, Larking said, but the seriousness of the burns wasn't yet clear.

Fire crews were still at the scene at 7am.
