Wellington Railway Station has re-opened after it was evacuated and all trains were suspended after a bomb threat.

It comes just days after multiple bomb threats were made at various locations around the city.

Shortly before 3pm on Thursday, Metlink issued a statement saying that all services in and out of Wellington are suspended due to the evacuation. By 3.30pm police were allowing people back into the station. Trains have resumed service, but are not running to timetable.

Trains in Auckland have also been cancelled and delayed due to national train control being affected.

A Police media spokesman said the Wellington Railway Station was evacuated following a threat made at about 1.50pm.

'Police are working to establish the circumstances around the incident.'

At about 3.45pm Police said the station was re-open after the threat.

'The location was found to be safe and we would like to thank members of the public for their patience.'

Metlink spokeswoman Emily Liddell said some trains had resumed at 3.40pm, but passengers could expect some delays.

'We will have delays and cancellations and we'll have updates on the Metlink website, but well will have trains running this afternoon.'

Liddell recommended that passengers listen to updates at the station or check the website for delays before travel.

People on Twitter have reported that train drivers said a bomb scare caused the evacuation.

A passenger at the station said people were asked to move away from the building.

He said there was a heavy police presence.

On Monday one person was arrested for threats in Hutt Valley and Central Wellington.

A Police media spokeswoman said they had no further information at this stage but there was nothing to suggest a link to the bomb threats made on Monday.

Yeah the train driver just informed us that there was a bomb threat at Wellington Station. Dunno if it was the same guy or not, but they’re doing a sweep of the building atm.
