Search continues for woman missing in sea at Te Waha Point, West Auckland
Monday, 28 October 2019
The search continues for a woman who fell into the sea at Auckland's west coast.
Police used a helicopter in the search after the woman fell into the water around Te Waha Point at around 7.20pm on Monday.
A family member tried to pull the woman to safety, but sustained moderate injuries and could not complete the rescue, police said.
MetService forecast the sea to become rough overnight Monday, with a southwest swell rising to two metres.
Tuesday's forecast was for rough seas and two metre swells - which is considered moderate.
A lifeguard at Piha said Te Waha Point was only accessible via a track from the north end of Piha's beach to White's Beach.
The point is very high and a fall from the cliff is equivalent from falling off Piha's Lion Rock, which at its peak is approximately 100 metres in height, he said.
