The body of a climber was found on Saturday evening.

A body has been recovered after a person fell on Mt Earnslaw on Saturday.

Police received the report at 4pm, although the fall is understood to have happened earlier in the afternoon, a statement said.

The body was found near Earnslaw Hut, near Glenorchy in Mt Aspiring National Park, about 8:20pm.

The Department of Conservation rate the half-day walk to the hut, along Kea Basin Track, as difficult and suggest it is suitable for advanced climbers only.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
