A police spokesperson said a few branches from the tree had fallen and were blocking the road, which meant the scene took a while to clear.
The roads reopened just before midday on Sunday.
The police's Serious Crash Unit was investigating the cause of the crash.
Police released Hitchens' name on Monday.
