One dead and one injured in crash on State Highway 29 in Waikato

The crash occurred on State Highway 29 in Waikato.

One person is dead while another is seriously injured after a two-car crash near Karapiro, 30 kilometres southeast of Hamilton.

Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 29 about 2pm on Sunday, a police spokeswoman said.

Initial reports said one person was critically injured and another seriously hurt, but police have now said the critically injured person died at the scene.

Diversions are in place on the corner of State Highway 29 and Totman Rd and State Highway 29 and State Highway 1.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
