Fresh posters from a white supremacy group have appeared around Auckland University's campus - on the first day of classes.

The posters and stickers, some plastered on bus stops and lamp posts, were promptly removed, and students have taken to Twitter to forbid the naming of the group responsible.

'There are white supremacist posters and stickers up all around UoA city campus,' one tweet said.

'If you see them, please remove them immediately. Please do not post the group's name or pictures of the posters/stickers (let's not propagandise on their behalf).'

An Auckland University spokeswoman said she was aware of the material and the posters have been removed by the university and students.

'We are removing the material because it is illegal - defacing university property and contravening the Summary Offences Act 1981 of Billsticking,' she said.

'This rule applies to any material that is illegally posted.'

Auckland University came under fire last October, when it refused to step in and remove material advertising the same white supremacist group.

The incident was followed by 400 staff at the University of Auckland signing an open letter declaring racism and white supremacy had no place there.

The white supremacy group, open only to men, claims to be a 'brotherhood of young European New Zealanders', and aims to protect European identity against 'mass migration' and ''anti-racism' ideology'.
