Serious injuries in crash off State Highway 5

Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on a remote road off the Napier-Taupō highway.

Police said they were notified of the crash, between a car and a truck, about 8pm on Wednesday.

The crash occurred on Berry Rd, which runs off State Highway 5, east of the remote Hawke's Bay settlement of Te Pohue.

Police said it appeared one person had serious injuries.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

The Serious Crash Unit had been advised.
